The nefarious X-Nauts are on the hunt for treasure behind the Thousand-Year Door! With a map from Princess Peach and the help of some local residents, Mario travels through a colorful paper world to find them first. To succeed in this mission, you will need to level up Mario and his friends, master the timing of attacks and badges to impress the crowd in the combat scene, and make use of all the skills you possess. For example, turning into an airplane to cross large gaps or turning sideways to slide through narrow spaces.

This intense and engaging story is full of surprises, where everyone has something to say and it's often not what you expect. On his journey, Mario will meet an interesting bunch, such as the optimistic and scholarly Goombella and the shy yet determined Koops. Some of these characters will need your help in their own missions or may even join your team. Others, like Peach and Bowser, have their own stories that you'll play between Mario's chapters!
