Brás Cubas

An aristocrat and heir to a modest fortune, he lived mostly off the spoils of his ancestors. A life devoted entirely to himself — no wife, no children. His pastimes included inventing professions for himself, dabbling in philosophy, and meddling in the affairs of others whenever his curiosity was piqued. He was introduced to the xxx xxxxxxx philosophy through his friend xxxxxx xxxxx, and through this school of thought he delved into reflections that gave rise to his xxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx, as well as his xxxxxx xx xxxxxxxxxxx, which he used to attack rivals and make rather controversial observations.

Eva is a political activist and leader of the workers’ strike movement. She is the niece of xxxxxx, through whom she met xxxxx, with whom she had a brief relationship that ended abruptly. Today, she dedicates her efforts to her Cause, which has led to a long strike spreading across the city’s industrial zone — a major headache for those in power.

Crispim Soares

Adapted from: Crispim is a blend of two characters: the apothecary of the same name from "The Alienist" and Luís Dutra, Virgília’s cousin from "The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas".

A respected and feared figure, Bacamarte is a neurologist and psychiatrist, as well as the administrator and owner of Casa Verde. He runs the institution with an iron fist, imprisoning those whom his own distorted mind deems insane. His obsessive devotion to duty has made him cold, relentless, and indifferent to the feelings of others. Both strong-willed individuals, Bacamarte found plenty of reasons to dislike Brás Cubas — from a xxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxx in common to the newspaper article in xx xxxxx that questioned Bacamarte’s “medieval” methods and how his institution resembled a prison more than a hospital.
